Start with the operating symptom
Useful diagnosis separates what the system is doing from what caused it. The same symptom can have mechanical, electrical, hydraulic or control-related causes.
Information to record safely
Before calling, note:
- Whether the pump starts, hums, runs or remains silent
- Any alarm lights, codes or electrical trips
- Whether pressure, flow or liquid level has changed
- Noise, leakage, smell or visible damage
- Recent work, power interruptions or flooding
- Pump and panel make, model and rating details
Avoid repeated resets
Repeatedly resetting overloads or breakers can worsen damage and increase risk. If a pump trips again, isolate it where safe and arrange competent investigation.
Common questions
Useful answers
Can a failed float stop a working pump?
Yes. A pump can be mechanically sound but receive no start signal because a float, sensor, cable or control component has failed.
